Pictured here is a shuttle car used to transport coal away from the underground coal mines in West Virginia. Taylor Tully wrapped two of these units and they are now ready for on-deck transportation going overseas to India. Taylor used a 18′ wide by 200′ long roll of 7-mil shrink wrap for this project. This was a full encapsulation and 5 uprights were used for some structure underneath the cover.

Dr. Shrink carries two different options for the Thermal Weed Removal Kit. Both kits include a Shrinkfast 200 Heat Tool. The DS-TWB-2 kit comes with the 2′ straight extension and the DS-TWB-4 kit comes with the 4′ angled extension. If you already own a Shrinkfast 200 (998) Heat Tool, you can purchase the 4′ angled or 2′ straight extension separately.

• Shrinkfast 200 Propane Fired Heat Tool combined with a 4′ angled or 2′ straight extension uses high heat to control and eliminate weeds in certain areas without adding harmful chemicals to the environment

Irish Boat Shop hosted a Shrink Wrap Recycling Day on May 17th. The event gave area boaters the opportunity to sustainably dispose of shrink wrap boat covers in addition to Dr. Shrink’s annual Michigan Recycle Run program. 30+ customers came with shrink wrap covers to be recycled, which equates to about 500 lbs of shrink wrap to be recycled! 

At Dr. Shrink, we pride ourselves on being a multi-talented crew! This past month, we embraced our inner artists and creative sides 👨🏻‍🎨

This year’s painting was of the Northern Lights 💜💙💚

We seem to be getting better every year… what do you think?

Spring is finally here and we are coming out of hibernation in Michigan! We welcome the warmer days of spring and look forward to the adventures of summer! As you unwrap your boats and prepare for the season ahead, please remember to recycle your shrink wrap covers. This material is 100% recyclable as long as all contaminants are properly removed. As you know, we have our Recycle Run program in Michigan, but for other states- please check with your local marina or recycling center if they will accept this #4 LDPE plastic.

An announcement for all folks in Michigan- Irish Boat Shop Shrink Wrap Recycling Day is on May 17th! The Shrink Wrap Recycling Day has expanded to all three Irish Boat Shop locations this year! As you get ready to hit the water, don’t just toss your shrink wrap—recycle it. I will be at this event; it is a good time, great atmosphere and people, and makes an impact!

On a different note, I had a wonderful trip to Turkey this past week. I helped work a booth at the Mast Izmir Boat Show with our exclusive distributor in Turkey, Sabir AS. Sabir is the only authorized Dr. Shrink, Inc. distributor in Turkey and they do excellent work. I’ve included some of my photos below of the beautiful scenery in Marmaris, Turkey. Excellent baiting on the Aegean Sea and about a 40 minute ferry ride to the Greek Island of Rhodes.

April is always an exciting month full of gratitude as Dr. Shrink, Inc. celebrates our company anniversary. As we celebrate 33 years in business, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on this incredible journey and express my heartfelt gratitude to all who have made it possible. From the very beginning of this company in 1992, our mission has been to provide a premium product, offer exceptional customer service, supply innovative products, and build lasting relationships with everyone we serve. Today, I am proud to say that we have achieved all of this and more– thanks to the unwavering support of our loyal customers & distributors, and the dedication of our incredible staff.

I also want to acknowledge the many valuable connections I’ve made with customers and leads at trade shows over the last 33 years. I have traveled across the globe for years, exhibiting at trade shows for various industries that shrink wrap could be beneficial in, and I’m not done yet! Meeting so many of you in person, hearing your needs, and discussing how we can help has always been one of the highlights of this business. Some shrink wrap frustrations, along with customer thoughts, product tweaks, recommendations, and new ideas are presented to me in conversations while at trade shows, and this is wonderful because I am always up for a good challenge! You all keep me on my toes. I cherish the relationships that have come from trade shows and traveling; there are many of you who have become not only valuable business acquaintances, but also friends. I’ll see you at the next show!

Dr. Shrink’s film is 100% virgin resin made of #4 Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) and is one of the most common plastic types AND is 100% recyclable at most local recycling centers! All you need to do is remember to keep it C.0.0.L. which is our easy reminder to make sure your wrap is CLEAN, has ZERO accessories (vents, strapping, doors, etc.), has ZERO moisture (be sure it is dry), and is LOOSE when packed for recycling.

Do the environment a favor and give your local recycling center a call. If you need any specific details or data sheets on the plastic, contact us and one of our customer service team members will be glad to help!

As we slowly inch closer into the Spring season and warmer weather, let us also “spring” into sustainability! I encourage all of you to look into recycling your shrink wrap covers to keep this premium plastic out of landfills. Recycling shrink wrap has always been a very important aspect of Dr. Shrink, Inc. I created a REBAG Recycling System in 1995 that worked nationwide for two decades. Customers would purchase a REBAG from Dr. Shrink that included a prepaid shipping label; they would stuff the bag with used shrink wrap and using the prepaid shipping label, would then be shipped to a recycling facility. Unfortunately, the REBAG System has since been discontinued as the shipping carrier rates for each bag of shrink wrap became cost prohibitive. The Recycle Run program has been a wonderful solution to this and my hope is that other states will follow this program model. It is a simple and straightforward program, and using our Film Knife makes removing the cover easy. All you need to do is take off zipper doors and vents, use a Film Knife or Wrap n’ Strap Knife to cut just above the strapping (perimeter band), then roll the cover off the boat and into the recycling bag. I am proud to say that 100% of the material that is picked up during our Michigan Recycle Run each year is brought to recycling facilities within our state to be transformed into new products, such as composite decking or structural construction components. We diverted about 29 tons in the 2024 Recycle Run. It’s great to have a real impact as we help keep our communities clean! Small changes make a big impact.

Boat US hosted their “Turning the Tide” online webinar last week; this was a three-day virtual summit centered on exploring existing and emerging technologies and best practices for responsible and sustainable disposal of boating-related waste streams.

Dr. Shrink presented alongside Irish Boat Shop, Bay Area Recycling, and the Michigan Recycling Coalition to spread awareness of our Michigan Recycle Run program as well as Irish’s expansion of their 1-day recycling event! ♻️ This year, Irish Boat Shop is expanding their Shrink Wrap Recycling Day to ALL three Irish locations in Michigan. Dr. Shrink’s Recycle Run program continues to be a successful shrink wrap recycling program throughout the state.

The “Scaff Hat” scaffolding cap prevents scaffold leg ends (and scaffold tube/pin edges) from penetrating and/or poking-through the shrink wrap. Creates a nice, smooth, rounded surface to support the shrink wrap scaffolding enclosure.

As we slowly inch closer into Spring season and warmer weather, I encourage all of you to look into recycling your shrink wrap covers to keep this premium plastic out of landfills.

We have a successful program in place in the state of Michigan (the Recycle Run), but for those of you outside of Michigan, keep in mind that shrink wrap is an easily recycled material that many recycling facilities will accept as long as all “contaminants” are removed (strapping, vents, zipper doors, etc.) and the cover remains fairly clean, dry, and loose. Our EZ-Fill REBAGs are the perfect storage solution for these used covers as they are extra large in size and come with a zip-tie closure device to keep water out. Happy New Year, everyone!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year holiday with family and friends. Our team had a wonderful time at our annual Christmas Party, Ugly Sweater Party, and the Dr. Shrink kiddos enjoyed a visit from Santa at our family party!

I hope everyone has a great start to 2025. We are looking forward to this new year working with you! Dr. Shrink values every single one of our customers, and we try to offer as many customer perks as possible. One of those perks of working with us is the professional, timely, and thorough training advice and insight you will receive. Our Installation & Advice Form on our website has been very popular with our customers, as it is an easy way to upload photos of a potential shrink wrap job with dimensions and other specifications. Once the form is submitted, our technical team will assist you with selecting the correct size shrink wrap, quantity, and recommended installation method.

We hope to always exceed our customers’ expectations and satisfaction with the “Dr. Shrink Advantage”. Hello everyone!

I hope everyone enjoyed a fantastic Thanksgiving holiday surrounded by family and friends. It’s amazing to think we are already into the month of December! The Dr. Shrink team and I are eagerly anticipating several holiday celebrations this month, including our annual employee Christmas Party, an entertaining Ugly Sweater party, and a special visit from Santa Claus for the children. It promises to be a month filled with festive and fun activities.

As we approach the end of 2024, I would like to express my gratitude for your business throughout the year. Helping the Local Animal Shelter

Some of you may be aware that we have worked with our local animal shelter, Homeward Bound, on several different occasions over the years. One of the projects that we help them with is shrink wrapping the front and back of their building where the kennels are housed, to protect the dogs from the wind and winter weather while they are outside.

As shown in the photo below, 3/4″ woven cord strapping was run in between each of the beams to support the film. Once the strapping frame was finished, a roll of 12′ x 149′ 7mil white was used to create the “wall”. Around the sides and top, furring strips were rolled onto the film and then screwed into place to secure the film. At the bottom, the wrap was trimmed and then heat welded around a base made of the woven cord strapping to create the bottom. With the entire perimeter of the wall secure, the film was then shrunk down. Furring strips were then tacked to the pre-existing beams on the outside of the wall to help limit the amount of movement from the wind. 

Run strapping on bottom and across posts to support the film.

Attach film to furring strips and leave 12" excess for heat weld.

Screw on furring strips to posts after film is shrunk for extra support.

A local customer created an innovative way to protect his oak and walnut lumber this winter to proect from snow and rain. Read below for his description of the job:

“These are shrink wrapped shelters to protect my milled oak and walnut lumber from the snow and rain, also allowing it to air dry slowly out of direct sunlight so it doesn’t crack. As you can see in the photos, the covers don’t go all the way to the ground- this is to allow plenty of air flow with 4 vents in the top of each plus some on the sides for air circulation.

The square one (above) is a frame from a 10’x10’ EZ-Up tent with the cover removed and strapping supports from the peak to each corner as well as the middle of each side. I used a piece of 7mil approximately 26’x26’ with plenty left over.

The rectangle one (below) is an old 6’x8’ frame shed. I made it a little longer to allow for more air flow and used a 17’x31’ 7mil.”

November 2024 Shrink Wrap News – from the Industry Leader Dr. Shrink, Inc.

Hello everyone!

As we welcome the crisp air and vibrant colors of November in Michigan, I am filled with gratitude for our loyal customers and all of you who trust Dr. Shrink to be your shrink wrap supplier each year.

I have heard from several longstanding marine customers this season and I want to extend my deepest thanks to each of you for your continued business and support. Dr. Shrink has hundreds of skilled and talented marine shrink wrap installers; I enjoy following several of you on social media and seeing all your excellent shrink wrap jobs! If you are especially proud of a recent shrink wrap project, please email us photos as we are always looking for more photos to add to our marketing library!

Last week, I was able to play a small part in our local “Paint the Town Pink” event which is put on by our local hospital; raising awareness about cancer while gathering funds to support those who are currently battling and fighting the disease. As we gather with family and friends this Thanksgiving, let us remember the power of community and the difference we can make when we come together.

Local "Paint the Town Pink" Survivors' Rock

While Dr. Shrink does not sell pink shrink wrap any longer, we kept several rolls in stock for local community events during October which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Manistee’s “Paint the Town Pink” event made its reintroduction to the community after a short hiatus. This year, Munson Healthcare planned a Women’s Health Social for overall awareness to women’s health, an Awareness Walk, as well as “Paint the Town Pink” apparel.

This event celebrates those who are battling, surviving, and supporting loved ones with cancer. All proceeds from the Women’s Health Social and apparel sales go to the Munson Healthcare Cancer Patient Needs Fund which supports patients with ALL forms of cancer.

This year’s boat shrink wrap recyclers went above and beyond! Over a hundred individuals, marinas, community leaders, and non-profits recycled 2,382 EZ-Fill Recycling Run Bags from Dr. Shrink, Inc. filled with used boat shrink wrap. These recycling efforts helped conserve an abundance of oil, energy, and landfill space that typically would have been used in the manufacturing and disposal of new plastics.

Customer Pickup Information For This Fall

Customers are welcome to pick up their orders from our warehouse in Manistee, MI- orders must be placed and paid in advance and you will need to call upon arrival. Please make sure you reference the weight and dimensions of your shrink wrap rolls and other items to be able to accommodate your pick-up.

Information to note prior to pick-up:

  • Come to the back of Dr. Shrink for pickup (shipping/receiving area)
  • Please do not block loading dock area
  • Remain in your vehicle and call 800-968-5147 to let us know you are here for pickup

We are open for pickup Monday-Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm EST.

We are also open on Saturdays until November 23rd from 9:00am-2:00pm EST. If you place an online order for Saturday pickup, the order must be placed Friday by 3:00pm EST.
