Due to COVID-19 restrictions and keeping our employees and customers safe, there have been changes made to our Customer Pick-Up process. Absolutely no customers are currently allowed inside of our building or warehouse at any time, for any reason. We are still allowing customers to drive-up to pick up their orders- orders must be placed and paid in advance and you will need to call upon arrival. Our warehouse staff will load your truck or vehicle as long as the following criteria is met:

Dr. Shrink staff will load the material if:

  • The vehicle has a separate trunk, truck bed, or SUV rear gate.
  • The vehicle has ample space to load.
  • The space is cleared for the material prior to loading. (Note, if the space is cluttered or materials/items need to be moved, the customer will be asked to come back after they have made room for the materials)

Dr. Shrink staff will not load the material if:

  • There is insufficient space.
  • The space is not cleared.
  • The customer wants the product in the back/front seats of the vehicle

Customers are welcome to load their own material if they are physically able. Please make sure you reference the weight and dimensions of your shrink wrap rolls and other items to be able to accommodate your pick-up.

Information to note prior to pick-up:

  • Come to back of Dr. Shrink for pickup (shipping/receiving area)
  • Please park to the left of the orange tent – do not block loading dock area
  • Remain in your vehicle and call 800-968-5147 to let us know you are here for pickup

New Product Sneak Peek

As we get ready for the marine season, our R&D team has been working hard on enhancing some of your marine favorites and have a couple new additions to bring to the table for the 2020 season. Here is your exclusive sneak peak at our latest product offerings now available – or soon to be available at Dr. Shrink!

Bottom Caps are designed to fit on the bottom of 2 x 4 boards commonly used as support poles under shrink wrap covers. The Dr. Shrink Bottom Cap has been redesigned into a smaller, more skid proof version with flexible plastic to be easily installed on a 2 x 4 support post. This upgraded quality of material offers less scratching on boat decks and better stability by reducing movement of the support post on the boat deck.

Designed to be used on our premium shrink wrap for a long lasting, permanent bond and offers the strongest adhesion possible.

  • Provides unmatched adhesive power for the toughest of shrink wrap jobs.
  • Our strongest adhesive tape
  • Polyethylene film backing with rubber adhesive
  • Can be applied in wet/moist conditions
  • Works excellent on all applications requiring higher bond strength and longer life span

Properly shrink wrapping your pontoon boats for winter storage greatly extends the life of your investment. Dr. Shrink has developed a product that is designed to help make your wrapping easier and stress free. We are proud to announce EdgeGuard to our Dr. Shrink family of strapping accessories. Available in 3″ lengths and sold in a 4-pack, EdgeGuard can be placed on the vertical pontoon supports that connect the deck to your pontoons. These pieces of sheet metal are typically sharp and can easily slice through tightened strapping and shrink wrap. EdgeGuard protects your strapping, so as you tighten your perimeter band, you are not left with sheared strapping along the frontside and backside of your pontoons.

  • Coming soon and will be available in 3″ lengths – sold in a 4 pack
  • Reinforced metal core on the EdgeGuard make for easy re-use season after season
  • Easily cut to desired length with metal snips
  • Can be used in other applications with sharp corners and protruding metal

Dr. Shrink is honored to announce we have been an accredited business for 10 years on the Better Business Bureau list. We currently have an A+ rating and continue to strive to surpass our customer’s expectations, both with supplying high quality products and excellent customer service!

BBB Accreditation Standards represent standards for business accreditation by BBBs in North America. These standards are based on BBB’s determination of the attributes of a better business. They incorporate not only lawful business practices, but also BBB’s experience with ethical advertising, selling and customer experiences. May 2020 Shrink Wrap News - from the Industry Leader, Dr. Shrink, Inc.

May Notes from Mike.

Happy May Day! Thank you to everyone who took the time to congratulate Dr. Shrink, Inc. on our 28th year in business last month. It’s been an honor to be your trusted shrink wrap supplier for the past 28 years.

Please don’t forget, if you’re located in Michigan, we are still doing our Recycling Run to make sure all of your shrink wrap covers are recycled. We’ve extended our deadline to July 1st to get on our pick-up list. Check out the section below on how to properly remove your cover.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day holiday at the end of the month. Be well and stay healthy. As always, please let us know what we can do for you.

-Mike Stenberg, President & CEO, Dr. Shrink, Inc.

Hurricane season starts on June 1st and Dr. Shrink is here for you!

Dr. Shrink offers a complete line of shrink wrapping products used to protect and/or compartmentalize structures after natural disasters (such as hurricanes) or while remediation/disaster restoration work is being done. Shrink wrap can be used to easily cover entire buildings, roofs, or other specific areas that are damaged. Dr. Shrink’s premium shrink wrap shrinks “drum-tight” and is far more effective than traditional tarps and sheeting. Our durable, weatherproof covering creates a proper enclosure and protects the project from further or potential damage. We’re stocked with wide and thick shrink wrap to help with your needs during this hurricane season.

Roof repair shouldn’t be tricky.

Dr. Shrink can help you learn how to cover a roof; if you’ve ever wondered about an alternative to a tarp on your roofing project then you’re in the right place. Replace your tarps, which break down over time, with shrink wrap by simply fastening it to your roof and shrinking it with a propane fired heat tool. Dr. Shrink’s shrink wrap has a 2 year warranty and can be fit to any roof.

The Dr. Shrink Advantage:

  • Saves time and money
  • Premium shrink wrap up to 60′ wide and 12-mil thick
  • Sleek, waterproof, durable protection
  • 100% virgin resin material with maximum UV inhibitors for long-term use
  • Our specialty Flame Retardant shrink wrap meets or exceeds all NFPA 701 specifications

Shrink wrap can be applied in the same way as a tarp and offers a wide variety of benefits over products that aren’t able to be custom fit.

  • Shrinking and welding shrink wrap together offers superior weather protection in every environment
  • Shrink’s high quality material is more durable than a tarp, which lends to a longer lasting cover.
  • All of our shrink wrap has UV inhibitors to protect it from UV breakdown
  • Consistent results for a clean, professional look on every project

Identifying what you need to cover is easy and so is applying it when you have Dr. Shrink’s experienced training staff helping you.

Dr. Shrink is a stocking seller of all items listed in the catalog and our experienced staff can help you get the roofing solution you need shipped same or next day.

Our 2020 Recycling Run is still on!

We’ve extended our Recycling Run registration date to July 1st, 2020. If you’d like to be put on our list, all you have to do is purchase our Great Lakes Recycling Bags, then fill out the form, send it back and Katherine from The Michigan Recycling Coalition will be in contact to get you set up with a pickup date and time.

Recycling your shrink wrap is extremely important – and easy! All you need to do is make sure to remove any strapping, zipper doors, vents, etc. and use a Film Knife to cut the shrink wrap cover above the perimeter band. Ball up the cover and stuff into one of our recycling bags and that’s it!

Click here for a quick video on the Simple Steps to Recycling a Shrink Wrap Cover. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have questions about recycling.

Recycling Run 2020 Registration Form

Dr. Shrink is here to help you with all your questions. Don’t hesitate to give us a call or email us. Below are a few of our most frequently asked questions.

What color shrink wrap should I use? Is there a difference?

Dr. Shrink’s premium shrink wrap comes in blue, white and clear.

  • Blue absorbs sunlight allowing ice and snow to fall off the cover easier during the winter. Used for winter storage and not recommended to be used at a transportation cover.
  • White reflects sunlight and harmful UV rays. Best used for transportation covers and general outside storage. White shrink wrap is also the color of choice for work enclosures and scaffolding. It provides shadow-free lighting and good color rendition.
  • Clear shrink wrap is commonly used for greenhouses and non-storage applications.

Know the color you need, but not the recommended mil thickness? Click here to find out more.

Can the heat from the heat tool cause damage?

We must first mention the propane fired heat tool used in shrink wrapping must be used in accordance with the directions in the training DVD. Always remember safety first!

The heat from the heat tool is swept over the cover, almost like spray painting, and is never left on one spot long enough to damage vinyl graphics, paint, gel coat, etc. In fact, the shrink wrap will become thin and holes will form before enough heat is transferred to damage the boat or object. If the shrink wrap should get a burn hole, and it appears the wrap is stuck to the boat, allow the wrap to cool and it will come loose by itself.

How do I repair tear/melt holes in the cover?

It is very easy to repair any holes that are made on a shrink wrap cover. If it is a small hole, a piece of our Heat Shrink Tape will fix it quickly. If is is a larger hole, a scrap of shrink wrap approximately 3″ larger than the hole may be taped on the original cover and lightly shrunk.

December 2019 Shrink Wrap News – from the Industry Leader, Dr. Shrink, Inc.

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. With Thanksgiving being so late in the month this year, it’s hard to believe we are already into the start of December. The staff and I had a nice time over the weekend celebrating the marriage of our team member, Kelly (Buckingham) to Eric Vasquez– congratulations to the newlyweds! We will have several other celebrations this month, including our holiday Christmas party as well as a special visit from Santa Claus for the kids. It should be a great month full of festive events. As we close out 2019 this month, I would once again like to thank you for your business and loyalty over this past year. 2019 has been a fantastic year and I look forward for what is to come in 2020. I appreciate all of you and wish you all the best this holiday season. Happy Holidays!

Some of you may be aware that we have worked with our local animal shelter, Homeward Bound, on several different occasions over the years. One of the projects that we help them with is shrink wrapping the front and back of their building where the kennels are housed to protect the dogs from the wind and winter weather while they are outside.

As shown in the photos, 3/4″ woven cord strapping was run in between each of the beams to support the film. Once the strapping frame was finished, a roll of 12′ x 149′ 7mil white was used to create the “wall”. Around the sides and top, furring strips were rolled onto the film and then screwed into place to secure the film. At the bottom, the wrap was trimmed and then heat welded around a base made of the woven cord strapping to create the bottom. With the entire perimeter of the wall secure, the film was then shrunk down. Furring strips were then tacked to the preexisting beams on the outside of the wall to help limit the amount of movement from the wind.

This is just another way to show that you can use shrink wrap for just about anything. If you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call at 800-968-5147 or email us. If you are interested in adopting an animal from Homeward Bound, you can visit their website or call 231-723-7387.

  1. Run strapping on bottom and across posts to support the film.

2. Attach film to furring strips and leave 12″ excess for heat weld.

3. Screw on furring strips to posts after film is shrunk for extra support.

If you have questions on wrapping certain items, we are here to help. In the mean time, please see our Videos & Resources section below to get a better handle on shrink wrapping many of these items.

President & CEO, Dr. Shrink, Inc.

Dr. Shrink Videos & Resources

For  Marine and Recreation applications, we typically recommend a 6 or 7-mil material. The 6-mil is our thinnest shrink wrap and is used for smaller items such as boats, shed frames, pallets, and machinery that will be stored rather than transported. Our 7-mil material is the standard thickness for shrink wrapping boats in snow load areas, light construction jobs, and medium sized machinery. We offer 3 different colors of shrink wrap, all of which are made for different applications.
White shrink wrap works best for the majority of shrink wrapping applications. It reflects the sun and stays tight in all weather conditions making it ideal for transportation. Because of its ability to reflect the sun, the temperature beneath the film stays more consistent, thereby minimizing condensation and moisture build up under the cover.
Blue shrink wrap is generally used in snow-load areas as the darker color helps absorb the heat from the sun.  The warmth of the wrap assists in melting any accumulated snow on the cover much faster than that of the white.  Because of this, your boat will not have to shoulder that additional weight for as long. On the flip-side; because this film easily absorbs heat it makes it a less viable option for warmer climates.  The heat build up under the blue shrink wrap in warmer conditions could potentially cause heat damage to its contents.  In addition, the possibility for ‘loosening’ of the film is higher in hot weather, which does not make it the ideal choice for transportation.
Clear shrink wrap is most commonly used to cover greenhouses, brokerage items, and even live-aboard boats. The advantage of using clear is that you can see through it.  The disadvantage, however, is that the sun penetrates the covers and can accentuate the buildup of moisture/sun damage under the cover. Care must be taken to properly ventilate clear covers in an effort to help prevent damage.

Dr. Notes – News from Mike

“Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. It was a hot one in Manistee, reaching temperatures of almost 90 degrees Fahrenheit. In case you missed our New Product introductions from last month’s newsletter, we have put them in again. The SeatSaver, Rhino Cap, and Lightning Vent are the perfect additions to our innovative product line.
I would like to remind our Michigan and Wisconsin customers of our Recycling Run for removed shrink wrap covers in need of recycling. Registration Forms are due middle of June (please see the section below for more details).  If you are located in other states, take a look at our REBAG Recycling System for an easy way to recycle your shrink wrap cover(s). Wishing everyone a great start to the summer season.”
– Mike Stenberg – President & CEO, Dr. Shrink, Inc.

Construction & Scaffolding Industry

This month the Dr. is highlighting products and services as it relates to the Construction & Scaffolding Industry. The construction industry can yield huge profit margins and is a 12 month shrink wrap business. Government and large building contacts will often require scaffolding and exterior containment and shrink wrap is the most cost effective and durable material that can be used. Available in Extreme 12-mil and up to 60′ in width, with Flame Retardant sizes also available, the Dr. provides the largest rolls of film available on the market.
A construction site can be a vulnerable place. Whether it’s the construction of a new building or renovation/add-on to an existing one, there’s the risk of weather eroding all the hard work or ceasing it for a long period of time. For example, water damage – whether it’s rain entering the structure, melting snow, or leaks – is the most frequent cause of loss during building projects. Shrink wrapping a building or scaffolding on a construction site means not only protecting the work, but workers and productivity as well.
Dr. Shrink’s premium shrink wrap shrinks “drum-tight” and is far more effective than traditional tarps and sheeting. This durable, weatherproof covering creates a proper enclosure and protects the project from potential damage. Additionally, our shrink wrap creates an improved work environment. Our white shrink wrap allows natural, shadow-free lighting while blocking harmful UV rays. Worker downtime is reduced and the enclosure can even be heated and cooled.
