DIY Greenhouse with Shrink Wrap
A great customer of ours in Canada sent in these photos of a recent project he completed– a greenhouse in his backyard in Chilliwack, British Columbia.
Details of this greenhouse project: Several large pallets were used for this project and were put in a line to create the 20’ x 10’ layout. Some grass blocking black landscaping sheets were rolled out and the pallets went on top.
A metal frame was used (which is typically used as a car shelter) and was secured to the pallets. Dr. Shrink’s 40’ x 100’ 7-mil clear shrink wrap was pulled over the structure.
Once the material was pulled over the structure, 3/8″ thick plywood strips were used to roll the shrink wrap up a few times and then secured, so the shrink wrap could be shrunk down with a secure attachment to the pallets.
A large Dr. Shrink 36″ x 72” Zipper Access Door will be installed at the end of the current opening. This style of greenhouse allows for an extended growing season with very positive results.

I want to give a shout out to the Clean Ocean Access (COA), a New England-based non-profit, who is working hard at promoting shrink wrap recycling around the New England area, and this year expanding into Nantucket as well. In addition, we are pleased to announce an international partner, Switch Energy Corporation, out of Ontario, Canada. Their program will allow recycling throughout much of Ontario! Thank you to these incredible recycling partners and we hope to have a long working relationship together.

Why resin prices have been on the rise and the other industries getting hit….
We have all been feeling the increase in resin prices, and as we have been looking to our other industry colleagues and partners, we have taken notice this is not just the shrink wrap industry, all industries are getting hit from all angles.
The February “Mega-Freeze” that hit Texas really disrupted the production of resin, which is not just a key component in polyethylene, but also construction and other manufacturing materials. In looking into construction here in our home state of Michigan, we reference this article published by Capital News Service, with information from the Michigan Home Builders Association.
According to Robert Filka, the CEO of the Home Builders Association of Michigan, the effects of the shortage adversely impact many aspects of construction.
“The shortage of resin has caused shortages for all kinds of different products — everything from plumbing materials and all other materials that go into a house,” Filka said. “We are seeing incredible shortages and delays in products that have resin in them.”
Shortages make it difficult to estimate what the final cost of a home will be, Filka said, “because literally from the time they sign a contract to the time a builder might start building, prices have been increasing by thousands and thousands of dollars, depending on the size of the project.”
Additionally, construction prices are rising because of lumber shortages. “COVID has put some impact on production,” Filka said. “You’ve also got factories and mills having to operate under COVID restrictions so they can’t produce as much as they used to, yet demand for wood and building materials has skyrocketed since the pandemic.”
The cost of rubber prices are also going up across the board; higher prices for rubber are a direct result of a supply shortage. Rubber prices reached a four-year high in February, according to Bloomberg data.
As most of you are already aware, we have experienced several price increases on our shrink wrap since August 2020 due to the increasing cost of resins.
Dr. Shrink is committed to keeping the impact to our customers as low as possible, and with that, we assure you that we are passing along only the exact increase on raw material as it is received. There are no additional production costs or other fees impacting these increases.
These resin/raw material increases are market-wide and non-negotiable; no manufacturers, distributors, or customers are exempt from them. We assure you our pricing is just as competitive today as it was early last year, in the current market.
As a valued customer, we take the utmost care in offering you the best possible price on the highest quality product to ensure continued success in your business ventures. We can send you an outlined detailed list of increases we’ve incurred since August of 2020 if you wish, feel free to request that any time.
We appreciate your continued patronage and look forward to serving you as your business continues to flourish.
Trucking & Transportation HIGH DEMAND – Get in on the action!

Dr. Shrink, Inc. Expands Recycling Efforts with New Partnership in Ontario, Canada— Calls for Marinas & Boat Owners to Recycle Their Used Shrink Wrap
Manistee, Michigan – Dr. Shrink, Inc. is one of the largest suppliers of shrink wrap across the globe, and while offering premium and high-quality products, recycling of used shrink wrap continues to be a top priority for this global leader.
Dr. Shrink partners with the Michigan Recycling Coalition (MRC) and Bay Area Recycling for Charities (BARC) to keep used shrink wrap out of Michigan landfills each and every year. Dr. Shrink has expanded their efforts by recently partnering with Switch Energy Corp. out of Clinton, Ontario, Canada for shrink wrap recycling throughout most of Ontario. Recycling service prices vary depending on distance & quantity. Bags are available from Switch Energy Corp. All questions and inquiries into recycling in Ontario can be answered by Shane McKenna at 1-519-588-6303.
Since 2011, Switch Energy Corp. (SEC) has been the leading recycler of agricultural film plastics in Ontario. “In order to continue our success, SEC is pleased to expand operations to help provide a solution to the increase in marine plastics pollution. We feel we can have a significantly better impact on the amount of boat wrap that gets recycled in Ontario by partnering with Dr. Shrink,” says Shane McKenna.
All of Dr. Shrink’s film is 100% virgin resin made of #4 Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE). This is one of the most common plastic materials available, and its recycled contents is frequently used in plastic lumber, construction sheeting, and garbage bags. Many boat owners think of our shrink wrap as a “plastic bag” which is not commonly recycled at your local recycling center, however, our material is different.
“Taking care of our environment that we, as boat owners and outdoor recreation enthusiasts, all enjoy, should be a top priority,” says Mike Stenberg, President & Founder of Dr. Shrink, Inc. “With a little bit of effort and education, we can all do our part and recycle our used shrink wrap for free or very little cost.”
To start, pick up the phone and contact your local recycling center and ask them if they will accept “#4 LDPE plastic sheeting”. Some locations may require you to provide documentation, and Dr. Shrink is happy to help; you can access specification documents online at: dr-shrink.com/recycling, or you can email us at: recycle@dr-shrink.com and we will be more than happy to assist. From there, remember to: Keep it C.0.0.L. To ensure your wrap is accepted at the local recycling center, be sure it is clean, has zero accessories (such as strapping, buckles, vents, or zipper doors), has zero moisture and is dry, and finally, is loosely packed for easily handling and sorting when it arrives at the local recycling center.
Recycling and environmental stewardship is not a new concept to Dr. Shrink, they have pioneered a number of recycling programs throughout the country. “We have created a comprehensive recycling program in our home State of Michigan, and its 20+ years of success is one of our proudest accomplishments as a company.” says Stenberg, “Our goal each and every year is to continue to build upon our program, and this year, we are hoping to expand our efforts across the entire country.”
Dr. Shrink, Inc. was founded in 1992, by Mike Stenberg in Manistee, Michigan, as a one-man operation in his home. It has since grown into a 15+ employee international corporation that distributes its products on 6 continents across the world. Dr. Shrink, Inc. is located in Manistee’s Industrial Park at 315 Washington Street.

This month, I want to take a little time and talk to you about your shrink wrap business. Are you currently just focused on the Marine Industry? Looking to make the jump to expand your business? I can tell you that expanding into different industries/markets and growing your business into being a year-round operation is how we have grown Dr. Shrink to where it is today. It’s important to “think outside the boat”. Understanding the benefits that other industries can offer from utilizing the properties of shrink wrap is a game-changer.
With that, I want to go through some of the major industries we supply materials to, and provide you some insight as to how you can potentially make your business a thriving, year-round endeavor.
If you have any questions or are interested in specific opportunities in certain industries, please do not hesitate to contact me or our world class customer service team. Reasons for Resin and Shrink Wrap Price Increases
Polyethylene trading roared back to life after the New Year rang in, the spot market had largely been starved of material during December and buyers returned from the holidays in need of resin. Several ongoing production issues have greatly restricted Polyethylene supplies and since the start of the year, a massive monomer rally, spurred along by cracker outages, has further complicated the situation.
As of February 22nd, 2021, we received word that an additional resin increase has hit the industry on raw material (polyethylene) due to the inclement weather in Texas which caused production facilities to shut down and further limit supply of resins.
We understand that price increases are never a welcomed change, but we assure you that we are doing everything in our power to keep your pricing as competitive as possible in today’s market.
Please be aware that the price fluctuation you see on shrink wrap products reflects the exact increase that has hit the market ($0.31 USD overall in 2020-21), and not a cent more. As a valued customer, we take the utmost care in offering you the best price possible on the highest quality product to ensure your business ventures are a success.

We appreciate your continued patronage and look forward to serving you as your business continues to flourish.
Let's Explore 6 Industries of Shrink Wrap
The industries of shrink wrap are vast and provide the opportunity for year-round business. Many installers focus on the Marine and Recreation industry, however, that season is one of the shortest available in the year. Here we will highlight all of the industries and their potential for your business growth throughout the year.
The Marine and Recreation Industry is one of the biggest served by Dr. Shrink. Despite only three primary peak months, the Marine and Recreation industry is one of the most recognized in the shrink wrap industry as a whole. Boats, RVs, outdoor furniture, ATVs and much more are typically wrapped for seasonal storage purposes.
6 and 7-mil material with ventilation is the primary application and there is high volume potential as the market swells in the early to late fall. With recognition comes saturation, and this is the most competitive industry in shrink wrap. It is essential to provide a quality product and Dr. Shrink can help supply your needs.
The Disaster Relief & Restoration Industry has exploded over the past few years. Insurance companies, restoration companies, and contractors are all finding the superior benefits that shrink wrap has over the competition when looking for weather tight solutions at a time of disaster. Hurricanes, tornadoes, hail storms & severe winter weather all have an application where shrink wrap provides superior, cost effective protection of valuable assets that have been damaged as a result of these natural disasters. Here are some resources expanding on the Disaster Relief Industry.
The use of shrink wrap in the Trucking & Transportation Industry is becoming more popular, as full encapsulation of the products can make it completely weatherproof. This is an ideal industry to add to your Marine and Recreation market when looking to expand immediately. The techniques are easy to learn which will allow you to quickly expand to a year-round business without a huge learning curve.
The Construction & Scaffolding Industry can yield huge profit margins and is a 12 month shrink wrap business. Government and large building contracts will require scaffolding work and exterior containment. Shrink wrap is a cost effective and durable material that can be used for scaffolding. Available in Extreme 12-mil thick, with flame retardant sizes also available, the Dr.+ provides the largest sizes of shrink wrap available on the market. Browse our 12-mil shrink wrap.
One of the fastest growing year-round shrink wrap markets, Industrial wrapping can yield great business as customers demand packaging solutions along with corrosion inhibiting protection. This can all be provided by film supplied by Dr. Shrink. Our 7-mil VCI wrap is PERFECT for this industry and was designed specifically for it. Access details about our 20′ x 100′ VCI 7-mil Shrink Wrap.
Agriculture and Farming is a longer seasonal business, however, it’s more of a niche market but has high potential if located in desirable regions across the globe. Based on the changing seasons of the agriculture business, storage structures and equipment storage are among some of the most popular jobs performed by agricultural wrapping specialists. Because of the potential abuse that accompanies the industry, 8, 9 and 10-mil wrap is often used based on requirements.
Greenhouses for residential and commercial applications are also an area of large growth for many of Dr. Shrink’s clients with our wide array of clear films available.

The basic principles are generally the same across each industry, but in order to maximize your profit, you need to know the tips and tricks in each industry to be truly successful. This is why we have compiled a comprehensive training library for you and your team.

We hope everyone has had a great start to their new year! As we start looking towards warmer months, we need to think about recycling our used shrink wrap film. With that, all of us here at Dr. Shrink want to remind you to “Keep it C.0.0.L. & Recycle your Wrap.” Many of you may or may not know that all of our premium film is 100% Virgin Resin, #4 LDPE, and is accepted at most recycling centers if properly prepared for disposal. This is why we are launching our C.0.0.L. recycling reminder/tagline as an easy way to remember proper shrink wrap disposal for recycling purposes. Keep these points in mind; your wrap needs to be Clean, have Zero accessories (such as strapping, vents, doors, etc. – tape is OK), have Zero moisture (make sure it’s dry) and finally, is Loosely packed for disposal — keep it “C.0.0.L.” To read our full press release, click here.
By taking the extra 3-5 minutes when you are unwrapping your boat and following our simple steps, you can be part of the recycling solution and keep thousands of pounds of plastic material out of our landfills.
Thank you to all of our incredible customers for being part of our global recycling initiative. If you ever have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me or any member of our world-class customer service team and we are more than happy to help.

As we saw our first snowfall of the season a week ago, we are now heading into the cold weather months for half of the U.S. With that, we wanted to highlight some of the other ways that you can continue to utilize your equipment throughout the year.
I often get asked about what other industries utilize shrink wrapping outside of the Marine & Recreation market and I have to say that disaster relief/restoration and roofing has been a strong shrink wrap business that has really emerged over the past couple years. With the hurricanes, tornados and other major weather events that continue to pop up across the globe, the shrink wrap industry has responded in a big way.
Once you finish up your jobs in the busy marine recreation season, please contact us if you are interested in potentially growing or expanding your shrink wrap offerings into other industries. We can help get you started. We recommend filling out our short form on our website to let us know which industries you are interested in and we will be in touch!
We wish you, your family, and your business community a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season. Wishing you all the best as we come into a new year!

Today is Giving Tuesday, a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. Dr. Shrink is thankful throughout all years, but especially this year to be able to give. Through this difficult year we have all worked together and will come out stronger, together.
From the Giving Tuesday website: “In an era of global crisis and disconnection, we need new rituals to connect us. As the world’s largest giving movement, we believe we can go further, faster when we unleash generosity together.”
Mike, Bart, and Ryan took some time to shop for a carload of food and pantry items to be donated to a local organization in Manistee called Echo His Love. We hope others will be encouraged to join in on giving, collaborating, and celebrating generosity in a time that this world needs it the most. Everyone has something to give and every act of generosity counts!

Manistee, Michigan – Many don’t realize that Manistee is home to one of the world’s largest distributors of shrink wrap at Dr. Shrink, Inc. With global access, influence, and reputation, Dr. Shrink is raising attention for breast cancer awareness and giving back to 2 local cancer organizations for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“This year we are trying to really engage our customers from around the globe. We are stocking up on our “Pink Wrap” and will be promoting it all month long through our “Wrap for a Cause” campaign” says Mike Stenberg, President & Founder of Dr. Shrink, Inc. “With every roll purchased a portion of that sale will go to benefit the Paint the Town Pink and the Stomp Out Cancer Fund, both benefiting the local Manistee Community.”
“As we are getting into the height of the marine recreation wrapping season, we think some of our customers will really jump on the opportunity,” says Ryan Polcyn, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Dr. Shrink, Inc. “Since you need to wrap your boat anyway, why not “Wrap for a Cause” and also get the added benefit of knowing you are helping in the breast cancer awareness efforts.”
In the past, Dr. Shrink purchased Pink Wrap for their own use to generate awareness during cancer awareness events throughout Manistee County. You may have noticed the large rock along River Street at the Manistee Municipal Marina wrapped for the Paint the Town Pink downtown walk, along with their bus, wrapped in full Pink Wrap.
This year for the entire month of October, Dr. Shrink hopes to sell 100 rolls of their 17’x110’ 7-mil Pink Wrap all across the world, which will generate about $1,000 that will directly benefit the SOC & Paint the Town Pink Fund.
“We have some amazing customers all across the globe that we have incredible relationships with,” says Stenberg, “we are really optimistic that we will be able to meet our goal and sell out of our Pink Wrap this October. I’m looking forward to seeing our Pink Wrap in application photos in all different countries. The goal is to spread breast cancer awareness on a global level with our Pink Wrap.”
If you are interested in purchasing a roll of our Pink Wrap, you may do so at: dr-shrink.com or by calling us at: (231) 723.2685.
