Dr. Shrink, Inc. Introduces New Pink Shrink Wrap to Product Line While Raising Awareness for Breast Cancer Research

Dr. Shrink, Inc. recently introduced a new color of shrink wrap to their product line; their new bright pink shrink wrap has been featured and displayed at events in Manistee, Michigan (location of Dr. Shrink headquarters) in hopes to support breast cancer awareness as well as a local Relay for Life supporting all cancer awareness and research.

On June 11, Dr. Shrink, Inc. President/CEO, Mike Stenberg and VP of Sales/Marketing, Ryan Polcyn shrink wrapped a new car at a local Ford Dealership; Manistee Ford was putting on their annual “Pink Out” Classic Car Show for the 7th year to gain awareness for breast cancer research. A portion of all used cars sales during the month of June were donated and the proceeds went to the local hospital, West Shore Medical Center’s commitment to the early detection of breast cancer.

The shrink wrapped car not only stood out in color at the car show, but also turned into a guessing game at the event. Spectators were entered into a raffle by correctly guessing what kind of vehicle was wrapped underneath the pink cover– it was a brand new Ford Fusion, but many guesses were for Ford Focus and Ford Mustang.

Rob Pepera, Sales Manager at Manistee Ford states, “This was our 7th year for the car show and so far we have raised over $15,000 in those 7 years. This year so far we have added about $3,400. For the “Pink Out” car show, the fee was $10 for each car that registered and we had just over 100 cars. We also had raffle tickets for prizes that local businesses donated and a corn-hole game, as well as food and drinks. The “Guess the Car” shrink wrap contest was very popular. The shrink wrapped car turned out to be a featured attraction not just for passersby of the dealership on the busy highway, but inside the event as well as people were drawn to the car and started signing the pink cover. We are planning to keep the car wrapped in pink shrink wrap until the end of June; it has gained a lot of attention in our lot and we hope to raise more money for breast cancer research.”

Dr. Shrink also shrink wrapped and decorated the company bus in the new pink material which was driven in the local 4th of July parade. Dr. Shrink staff and other volunteer parade walkers handed out information on the local Relay for Life while the bus was decorated with slogans such as, “Let’s throw cancer under the bus” and “There is a CAN in cancer because we CAN beat it” in addition to writings of survivor names. Pink is the color of breast cancer awareness, and the company is also proud to support all cancer research by partaking in Relay for Life of Manistee County at the end of July. Dr. Shrink has registered a team in the event, The Shrink Walkers, and will be walking for 24 hours.

Dr. Shrink, Inc. stocks pink shrink wrap in two sizes—14’ x 128’ and 17’ x 110’ both in 8-mil material. Dr. Shrink, Inc. is a full-service, full-circle supplier of premium shrink wrap and all installation supplies and accessories. In addition to shrink wrap in sizes up to 60′ wide, it also offers heat tools, adhesives, zipper access doors and venting.

"Pink Out" Classic Car Show – Breast Cancer Awareness

A couple weeks ago, Mike and Ryan were hard at work shrink wrapping a car for our local Ford Dealership who had their annual “Pink Out” Classic Car Show. A portion of the used car sales were donated and the proceeds went to the local hospital, West Shore Medical Center’s commitment to the early detection of breast cancer. They wrapped the car for a guessing game to see if anyone could guess what kind of vehicle it was. It was a brand new Ford Fusion, but they had a lot of guesses for the Ford Focus and the Ford Mustang.

We talked with Rob Pepera from Manistee Ford and he said, “This is our 7th year for the car show and so far we’ve raised over $15,000 and we’ve added about $3,400 more this year. It was $10 for every car to be in the show and we had just over 100 cars. It was a great turn out. We had raffle tickets for prizes that local businesses donated and a corn hole game set up as well as food and drinks. The shrink wrapped car turned out to be a featured attraction once people started signing it. We’re planning on keeping it wrapped until the end of June and hope to raise some more money for a great cause.”

We have two sizes of our pink shrink wrap available – 14′ x 128′ 8mil and 17′ x 110′ 8mil. Just imagine all the things that you can wrap that will grab the attention of people with this bright, show-stopping pink!

Happy Earth Day 2016!

EARTH DAY 2016

Earth Day is more than just a one-day event, it’s something that we need to learn to add into our daily lives as ongoing education, action and change. According to earthday.org this years Earth Day Theme is Trees for the Earth. The website states, “Why trees? Trees help combat climate change, breathe clean air and help communities achieve long-term economic environmental sustainability and provide food, energy and income. Over the next 5 years, as Earth Day moves closer to it’s 50th Anniversary, we’re calling on you to help us achieve one of our most ambitious goals yet – we’re planting 7.8 billion trees and we’re starting now.” Check our earthday.org to see other ways that you can get involved in your community. Let’s all go out and do our part to help our planet in any way that we can.

Dr. Shrink would once again like to remind everyone that our 100% virgin resin shrink wrap is not biodegradable, so it is extremely important that it gets properly recycled. Dr. Shrink has 2 programs in place to easily recycle the plastic.

Our Recycling Run Program is a partnership with Bay Area Recycling for Charities out of Traverse City, MI. It is an inexpensive way to recycle your covers that come off in the spring months. Please remember all strapping, buckles, vents, zipper doors, etc. must be removed prior to packing the cover into the bag. This program is only available in the following states: MI, WI, IN, IL, OH, MN, SD and select locations in New York. To find out more information about this program, click here. Note: You must fax or email the Registration Form back to Dr. Shrink in order to sign up for the pickup.

Our second program, the REBAG Recycling Kit, consists of a 30″ x 50″ clear bag with cover removal directions printed on it, a closure device for the bag and a prepaid FedEx shipping label. Each REBAG will hold the cover from a 26′ powerboat or approximately 600 square feet of shrink wrap. Stuff the bag full and then put the prepaid shipping label on the outside of the bag, call FedEx for pickup or take it to the nearest FedEx store to ship.

Both of these programs are simple and easy ways to properly recycle your shrink wrap.  Please think of the environment not just today, but every day.

Dr. Shrink Celebrates 24 Years in Business!

Dr. Shrink Celebrates 24 Years in Business!

We couldn’t have made it this far without the continued support of our customers. From all of us at Dr. Shrink, we cannot thank you enough for all the support over the years. Our hope is to continue to grow together in the next 24 years.

Ever wonder how Dr. Shrink came to be the company it is today? Here’s our story:

Back in 1985 before the birth of Dr. Shrink, Mike Stenberg worked as a shrink wrap installer. He wrapped boats, machinery, airplanes, buildings, etc. for about 7 years where he perfected the craft and skills of shrink wrapping. As shrink wrapping became more widespread and well known, Mike saw more of a need for distribution of premium shrink wrap and installation supplies – so his focus shifted from an installer to a distributor. In 1992, Dr. Shrink was born. Mike started Dr. Shrink as a distribution company out of his home garage in Manistee, MI. His initial vision for the company was to offer expert shrink wrapping advice (that he gained from all the years of work), innovative products, premium high-quality products and excellent service – a one-stop shop for all things shrink wrap.

1992

Mike started selling to local boat owners and marinas. He believed that in order to have a strong business foundation, you needed to know exactly what your vision is. He said, “The main thing that helped me see a clear vision of what I wanted to offer my customers (other installers like myself) was that I knew the tricks of the trade of shrink wrapping and was fully aware of the common hurdles and frustrations. I wanted to develop products that would make shrink wrap installation more efficient, less troublesome, and more straightforward for others. In addition to that, I wanted to build a company that would be able to offer the best shrink wrapping products, excellent service, and experienced shrink wrap application advice.”

In just a year, Mike realized that the company was out growing his home garage and he needed to stock more products, so he purchased the first official Dr. Shrink warehouse in 1993, which was about 2,500 square feet and stocked about 40,000 to 50,000 pounds of shrink wrap. Dr. Shrink continued to grow and so did Mike’s vision for the company. The company began expanding into new markets and new areas – a big step was selling internationally acquiring international distributors. Currently, Dr. Shrink supplies shrink wrap all over the world, over 80 countries that use our shrink wrap for all different applications and have distributors in 30 countries. All this growth meant that Dr. Shrink needed to stock more products. In order to better accommodate customer’s shrink wrap needs and making shrink wrap ready for immediate shipment, a larger 12,000 square foot warehouse was custom built for Dr. Shrink in 2001.

 1993 - 2001

Four years later, with continued growth for the business, Dr. Shrink outgrew the 12,000 square foot warehouse and purchased a 60,000 square foot facility in 2005. There was an additional 12,000 square feet added in 2012. We are still currently located in this facility on Washington St. in Manistee, MI and currently stock over 1 million pounds of shrink wrap at all times.

Shrink Wrap Project for NuDay Syria

Again this year, we are working together with Alison McKeller from “NuDay Syria” which is an organization out of New Hampshire that helps with Syrian relief efforts. Alison has been active in this effort for Syrian relief for about 2 years now. Dr. Shrink is encouraging shrink wrap customers with any remaining end rolls of shrink wrap to donate them. Used shrink wrap can also be donated as long as the cover has been carefully removed and stored, is not holey, dirty, or hard to handle.
All the donations for the Syrian refugees are put into a 40′ container and shipped to Syria where the project activists collect the items for the refugees. Alison states, “In Syria they’ve been using these rolls for everything from shelters, to wall liners for field hospital operating rooms. Getting the ends of rolls makes it a lot easier to ship and less labor intensive, and I’m hoping to track down other companies and individuals willing to donate them.” Dr. Shrink has donated materials to this effort and we are hoping that our shrink wrap customers will do the same.

These photos show how Syrian refugees have used donated shrink wrap to create test shelters in an area of northern Syria close to the Turkish border. If you look at the shelters being made, it’s easy to see how even the used shrink wrap can be of great use when there are no other options available. Take a look at all the uses for shrink wrap in the Facebook photo album.
NuDay Syria is a registered 501(c)3 and the shipping cost associated with sending your rolls is fully tax deductible. If you live in the New England area, it may also be possible to arrange for the rolls to be picked up. Alison can be contacted at (386) 956-1530 or at alisonmckellar@gmail.com for more information.
Please take less than 10 minutes out of your day to watch this video on the effort for Syrian refugees: Alison McKeller and Nu Day Syria. How the shrink wrap is being donated and used is mentioned at the 2.5 minute mark.

You can send your leftover shrink wrap rolls directly to NuDay Syria’s offices:
